2019 VNL – Best Player Rankings Week 3

Posted by

Last year, for my own personal amusement, I started to post a different version of player rankings from the official FIVB version using statistical categories that, I think, are more interesting and accurate and useful.  I thought I would do the same this year.  I have expanded the lists to top tens to try to see if there is more stability from week to week.  There is still a lot of movement of players, although the league averages are almost exactly the same from week to week.  I have set the minimum requirement at ~40% of the maximum repetitions for each case.  A lot of the movement is among players who are at the 40-50% range, ie have played less.  The guys who are staying in the lists are the guys who are playing more for their teams.  Although is some cases, having a good week can make a big difference, eg Japan and Italy in serve, as I can personally confirm.

Below are the Top 5 lists in the different skill categories.  They are compiled using the Science Untangled reporting app, which is one among the suite of apps developed by Ben Raymond.  If you want to fiddle around with the statistics yourself, he has made a mini version of this app using just this data.  The link is here.
