Here are the final ‘Best Player’ rankings from the preliminary round of Volleyball Nations League. I have set the minimum requirement at ~40% of the maximum repetitions for each case. Skill areas with lower minimum requirements are obviously more volatile, as are those with smaller margins (e.g. blocking). I also found a couple of errors in the original data, which explains the sudden appearance of a couple of players in the lists (e.g. opposites attacking). I should also note that the original data is not necessarily standardised. This doesn’t matter for most things (a kill is a kill), but might have some effect on the ‘expected’ rates for serve and reception.
As always, the lists are compiled using the Science Untangled reporting app, which is one among the suite of apps developed by Ben Raymond. If you want to fiddle around with the statistics yourself, he has made a mini version of this app using just this data. The link is here.
