Pay attention”

Being a coach, means being deeply involved in a continual process of learning.  Coaching is a multifaceted activity in which there are innumerable skills and competencies to be learned and improved.  But above all there is one skill that the coach must possess in order to master coaching – to pay attention.

Paying attention gives you the most vital element of the learning process: feedback.

If you pay attention to player’s responses to your inputs, you learn if you are providing the correct information in an appropriate manner.

If you pay attention to how the players play in matches, you learn if the drills you choose effectively create transfer.

If you pay attention to the interactions between the players, you learn about the health of the team.

If you pay attention to the daily health and mood of the players, you learna bout the status of your training program.

If you pay attention to how the players enter the gym, you learn whether you have effectively engaged them in the team.

If you pay attention, you have a chance to be a coach.
