There are a few countries in the world where volleyball is important. By that I don’t mean that volleyball is popular, or where volleyball has a strong league, but where volleyball plays an important role in the general society. In none of these countries does volleyball have a higher place than football, but in each of them, volleyball has touched the general public in some way. I can think of three such countries: Poland, Brazil and Iran.
I was lucky enough to experience Iran’s volleyball culture first hand last week. I will let this video speak for itself. To put it into context, I took the video 75 minutes before the official start of the match and none of the Iranian team was actually in the stadium at the time.
