Posted by I just came across this clip from Julio Velasco. The title in Italian is “Easy And Difficult Do Not Exist: Only What You Can And Can’t Do”. Unfortunately, it is in Italian but I think I can explain it.
He tells a short story about not being able to solve a computer problem and asking his young daughter to help him. His daughter solves the problem in three keystrokes, while laughing at her father for not being able to do something that is ‘easy’. On reflection he realises that ‘easy’ is a relative term and put it in terms of coaching.
“I can’t say to my players that something is easy, just because it is easy for me. Because easy and difficult do not exist. There are only things I can do, and things I can’t do.”
Thanks to Alessandro (see comment below) he adds “His daughter would tell him: “get out of the way” and fix the thing. This makes Velasco think: I must not do this with my players. I must not tell them to get out of the way and solve the problem for them. I have to make sure THEY do it!”
